Abrasive Wheels Training Course Scotland


The Abrasive Wheels Training Course is designed to help candidates safely handle abrasive wheels.


Duration: 1/2 Day (4 hours)
Location: On-Site or Wilson Adrain Training Centre
Delegates: Maximum of 10


Almost half of accidents involving abrasive wheels, result from unsafe working practices. If you work with abrasive wheels following strict health and safety practices is essential to protect both yourself and others from harm. Undertake the Wilson Adrain Safety Management course and we will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to operate with abrasive wheels safely.


Aims of the Course:

Our Abrasive Wheels Training Course will provide you with an introduction to working safely with abrasive wheels, to help understand risks, identify hazards and know which control measures are needed to prevent injury. The course will provide operatives with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to safely operate Cut Off Saw and change/mount abrasive wheels.


Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify and control potential hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels.
  • Understand the correct method for storing, handling and transporting abrasive wheels and correct wheel selection.
  • Understand the BS marking system for abrasive wheels and wheel construction.
  • List and explain the function of the controls used on Quick Cut Saw/Grinder.
  • Demonstrate competence in mounting an abrasive wheel and adjustment of Guards.
  • Demonstrate the correct method of Quick Cut Saw/Grinder Operation.
  • Be aware of the legal requirements of an appointed person.


PPE Required:

  • Hi-Vis jacket or vest
  • Safety boots
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • Dust Mask
  • All must be in reasonable condition and fit for purpose.

The Abrasive Wheels Training Course is suitable for operatives that are required to operate and change abrasive wheels as part of their daily duties.
